As people’s concern for mother earth grows, new eco-friendly hotels are sprouting up all over the globe. The campaign to be more environmentally friendly among hotels is commendable, but of course there are a few that will stand out among the newly established ones, such as:
Venice Beach Eco Cottages, CA
Owned by actress Cynthia Foster and her husband Karel Samsom, this Californian hotel uses solar-powered bungalows, organic gaiam linens, and energy-star certified appliances. Additionally, the owners have pledged a percentage of their profits to local charities.
The Lodge at Sun Ranch, MT
This is a luxury camp owned by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Roger Lang, which is eco-friendly by design due to the owner also running a green construction company as well as the Sun Ranch Institute, which is a non profit organization that aims to maintain a healthy land by working with the community.
Stowe Mountain Lodge, VT
Owned by financial company AIG, this Stowe Mountain development’s main pitch is that you won’t find anything in the hotel that did not originate from within a 200-mile radius. It’s a completely self-sustainable ski resort with state of the art facilities and a 6,400 yard golf course.
The Nines, OR
Portlan, Oregon is already famous for having a number of green hotels, but the relatively new Nines hotel set the bar higher for trying to be the US’ first luxury urban eco-property, starting by being built using 90% recycled construction debris. Everything from the fixtures down to the food are sustainable and eco-friendly, and the hotel is currently trying to apply for a LEED Silver-certification.
